Broughton embarks on a five-year programme of refurbishment which includes repairing stone work and ridding the castle of the dreaded death watch beetle. Lord Saye (below) is shown examining the floorboards. "My primary interest is to keep this house secure in the long term," Lord Saye said in a newspaper interview. "I do not regard it as a millstone round my neck. It is a big responsibility but the pleasure exceeds the difficulties."
