The Descent of BroughtonThis chart shows the ownership of Broughton Castle through the ages, from the de Broughtons to the Wykeham-Fiennes-Twisleton families. Owners are highlighted in yellow, as shown, and the passing on of the Barony of Saye and Sele is indicated with a chess knight icon The Barony of Saye and Sele lapsed from 1471, after the death of William, second Lord Saye and Sele, until it was revived in 1603, in favour of Richard Fiennes, seventh Lord Saye and Sele. It lapsed again after the death of James Fiennes second Viscount and ninth Baron, in 1674, and was revived in 1781 in favour of Thomas Twisleton, thirteenth Baron. There is considerable confusion over the tenth Baron, as Thomas Twisleton's claim was recognised before the death of Richard, sixth and last Viscount.
